On Saturday, April 27, SJP staff attorneys Katie Martinez and Rebecca Desta held an education legal clinic at the Public Defender Service’s Second Chance, Second Hand event. The event was held in partnership with several local organizations and featured free groceries, a mutual aid market, and other legal resources including record sealing, public benefits, and immigration. SJP provided information to community members about special education rights and the continuum of services SJP attorneys provide.
The following week on Thursday, May 2, SJP staff Sophie Thackray and Katie Martinez provided information and outreach to high school students at Garnet Patterson STAY’s Student Resource Fair. SJP tabled alongside partners Open City Advocates, as well as other legal services organizations, medical providers, and workforce development programs.
SJP is excited to continue increasing our participation in community outreach and legal clinics to inform students of their education rights and address their brief legal service needs.
